Ch-Ch-Ch-Cheesy
I've been seeing these commericials on the sports networks the past few days for chia pets bearing the likeness of President Obama. The website for these things offers them in two flavors: "happy" and "determined". They invite us to "celebrate the change right in your own house". Eddie Murphy should sue for trademark violations, because this looks like a freakish coupling of two of his more famous sketch characters from back in the day, Gumby and Buckwheat. I've posted an image of the determined Obama chia model below:

While I'm sure the Chia Pet people didn't have such intentions, the Obama chias seem more than a little racist to me in other ways too. Maybe it's the way the "hair" grows, resembling the stereotypical oversized afro. But the more I watched these commercials, I began to notice an even more disturbing coincidence. It was right on the tip of my mind. Then recently it hit me:
Other than the amount of hair, the resemblance is uncanny! Maybe the folks at Chia are onto something here. You can click on the picture to read Chairman Mao's Wikipedia entry. It wouldn't surprise me if the next stimulus package was labeled "The Great Leap Forward"...God bless capitalism!

Sorry but when I saw the first picture, I thought it looked like a garden was growing out of his head..lol..sorry but honestly, the first thing that came into mind were plants (i mean, it's green)
And I got totally lost on the second picture. I have no idea who that is at all.
I see (checked out the site you provided there), it is a planter (DOH!)..lol..no wonder it's green. Where have I been?
It's still funny...a president's head growing seaweeds..lol...
I guess this push for socialized medicine is the first part of our own version of the "great leap forward".
I can hardly wait for the thought police, censorship, and purging of the academic community to begin. Can you tell I'm giddy with anticipation ?
@Thess: The 2nd picture is Mao Zedong(or Tse-Tung). He was the driving force in establishing communism in China. You can click his picture to read the Wikipedia link about him. I forgot to mention this in the post, so I've updated it now to point this out.
@GD: Hey man, thanks for weighing in...Perplexed always has room for one more patriot! :D
Ah, that's Mao? I've heard of him, just didn't know that's him. Thanks.
To be honest, i like the idea of "having equal rights, equal everything" probably because I live in a country where the rich rules and has the power, AND abuses it, and where, more often than not,the poor is oppressed but communism... hmmm, NO.
Great, Dave, now every time our president pulls out some very lefty legislation, I hear in my head, "Ch-ch-ch-ch-chairman."
